Work due to start on 107-home development in Hunts Grove

Housebuilder Bellway is set to start work on 107 new energy-efficient homes in Hunts Grove, near Gloucester.

The development will be known as Blackthorn Walk and forms part of this new neighbourhood which is taking shape to the south of the city.

Bellway is to build a range of two, three and four-bedroom new houses, which will all feature solar panels to help residents minimise their carbon emissions, after buying the land earlier this year. Planning permission for Bellway’s detailed plans was granted by Stroud District Council in May 2024.

Daniel Shone, Head of Sales for Bellway, said: “Now that we have been given the go-ahead for our detailed plans at Blackthorn Walk, we are busy preparing to commence work to deliver a collection of much-needed new homes in Hunts Grove.

“These two, three and four-bedroom houses will help meet the needs of the local market and will cater for people looking to buy their first home or to purchase their next property in Gloucester.

“The homes will be energy efficient and feature solar panels to help keep energy bills down, as well as electric vehicle charging points to allow people to embrace greener forms of transport. Blackthorn Walk is in a great location being just five miles from the shops, bars and restaurants of the historic centre of Gloucester and just a few minutes’ drive away from the A38 and junction 12 of the M5.”

The wider Hunts Grove development is planned to bring approximately 1,750 new homes alongside community facilities to the area. Bellway previously built 125 new homes at its Springfields development in an earlier phase, opposite the new Hunts Grove Primary Academy, which opened on site in 2019.

Daniel said: “This new development is testament to Bellway’s commitment to supporting the creation of the new community of Hunts Grove, which was designated as a parish in 2020 and is an important project in the provision of new homes in Gloucestershire. We are proud to be returning to the site to build more homes to help expand this vibrant new neighbourhood.

“Blackthorn Walk represents one of several developments in the Gloucester area where we are delivering a boost to the local economy through the creation of new jobs. This development will support the employment of 331 people and generate more than £1.2 million in tax revenue, including £120,000 paid through council tax*.”

Bellway is set to begin work in the next few weeks, with the first new homes now available to reserve at the nearby Forest Walk development. The build programme is expected to see the first residents moving in by August 2025.
