Three Bellway East Midlands site managers win Seal of Excellence awards

Three site managers at Bellway housing developments in Nottinghamshire and Leicestershire have won prestigious Seal of Excellence awards for the quality of their work.

The winners of the National House Building Council (NHBC) awards are Gary Archer at Sherwood Gate in Linby, Dave Pringle at Abbey Fields Grange in Hucknall, and Chris Smith at Stoughton Park in Oadby. They are among only 21 site managers to receive the award in the NHBC East region this year.

For Gary, it is the fourth year in a row that he has won the Seal of Excellence for his work at Sherwood Gate, where he’s overseeing the construction of three, four and five-bedroom houses off Papplewick Lane.

This brings Gary’s total to seven Seal of Excellence awards in all, as he also earned them for other Bellway developments in Nottinghamshire, with two awards at Ruddington and one at Farnsfield.

The 55-year-old from Nottingham has worked for Bellway since 2014.

Gary said: “I’m incredibly proud that we have won this award for a fourth year at Sherwood Gate. I’ve got a great team around me and together we are meeting the highest standards.

“The NHBC awards are rigorous and the qualities they are looking for are absolutely the standards that I work to achieve on site every day.

“Everything from technical expertise to health and safety are all part of a quality building site and we don’t lose sight of that. Even though we have won this award again and again, we are never complacent about the quality of our work. We always aim to do better.”

Chris, 40, of Market Bosworth, has worked at Bellway’s Stoughton Park development off Gartree Road for nearly two years. The team is building 221 homes there – a mix of two to five-bedroom properties.

Winning the Pride in the Job Quality Award for his work on the site earlier this year was the first award Chris had won, and now he has achieved the next level with the Seal of Excellence.

He said: “For the Quality Award to be eclipsed months later with a Seal of Excellence was the proudest moment of my career to date.

“I have been fortunate to have an extremely strong, well-organised and dedicated team around me, with everyone pulling in the same direction and aiming to achieve the same goals – these goals being to build and hand over high-quality houses and ensuring we take pride in the job we do every day.

“The support, dedication and hard work from the management above me, my assistants, forklift drivers, labourers, material controller and finally the contractors have been second-to-none, and I believe this is what ultimately gave us the edge.”

In particular, he paid tribute to his colleagues, assistant site managers Darren Kimberley and Michael Blake.

“Their dedication to the reputation of Bellway East Midlands is contagious and greatly appreciated by me. The team have put in some serious hours and worked extremely hard.”

Dave, 54, who lives in Nottingham, said: “I am enormously proud of the work we are doing at Abbey Fields Grange building high quality homes.

“We have an excellent team here and the diligence and hard work they display every day allow us to reach excellent standards.

“Winning a Seal of Excellence award is testament to that hard work. I’m delighted to be given this award and see our achievements recognised.”

The NHBC organises the Pride in the Job awards each year and every site manager with a site that is registered for an NHBC Buildmark warranty is entered into the competition.

This year that was more than 8,000 site managers and of those, 443 received a Quality Award in the competition. The Seal of Excellence is the next stage of the contest when the very best Quality Award winners go on to receive the higher accolade.

The site managers are judged on consistency, attention to detail, leadership, interpretation of drawings and specifications, technical expertise, and health and safety.
