Surrey children commemorate the Queen at Wildflower Meadow

School children from Wyke Primary Academy have recently paid their respects to Her Majesty The Queen with a heart-warming time capsule event, held at Bellway’s picturesque development, Wildflower Meadow in Ash, Surrey. Capturing a once in a lifetime event, the children buried a time capsule filled with items commemorating Queen Elizabeth II and what she meant to them. The event was also attended by Head Teacher Michelle Wilson, Mayor of Guildford, Councillor Dennis Booth and Mayoress, Mrs Mary Booth, Lee Wood, Site Manager and Donna Channing, Sales Advisor for Bellway at Wildflower Meadow.

Tasked with collecting items related to The Queen, a wonderful collection of key artefacts was placed into the capsule including Jubilee flags, a Brownie Jubilee badge, photos and drawings of Queen Elizabeth II, including some with her beloved Corgi’s, and hand-written letters and poems to future generations describing the year of royal celebrations, both happy and sad. The children were then invited to visit Wildflower Meadow where they helped Bellway’s construction team lower the capsule into the ground, which will be resurrected in 2092.

Councillor Dennis Booth commented: “The Mayoress and I were delighted to be invited to this fantastic, heartening event and see the community come together to witness the time capsule burial and pay their respects. It was a wonderful way to commemorate Queen Elizabeth II and the items that the children have chosen for the capsule show true integrity and inspiration. It is absolutely fascinating to imagine what life in Ash, and within the Royal Family, may be like in 70 years’ time.”

The capsule was buried near the woodland walkway in the development and was marked by a commemorative plaque. Lee Wood, Site Manager at Bellway comments: “This has been an uplifting event and thoroughly enjoyable for all involved. I’d like to thank all the children and teachers at Wyke Primary Academy for all their hard work. It has been remarkable to be able to commemorate Her Majesty within our new development and the children have done a great job in representing her phenomenal influence on each and every person.”
