Son loved his mum’s new Bellway house so much he bought one himself

Dickie Haynes-Brown loved his mother’s new Bellway house so much he bought one himself.

The 37-year-old software support manager followed his mother’s recommendation and bought a new-build home – at Bellway’s Springwood development in Midway, near Swadlincote – with his husband Joe, a 28-year-old warehouse supervisor.

The couple moved into their new four-bedroom Bowyer detached house at the development in March this year.

Dickie said: “Mum and my stepdad bought a new house with Bellway at Woodland Rise in Hartshorne and moved in with us at our old house in nearby Woodville, while their home was built. We saw how Bellway dealt with her and we were incredibly impressed.

“We could see that the houses that Bellway built were of top quality but it was the amazing customer service that really clinched it for me. The sales advisors went above and beyond for mum and genuinely cared about her as a person, not just as a customer.

“When I told mum we were seriously looking to move she could not recommend Bellway highly enough. We looked around at other sites and developers but we came back to Bellway as no-one else offered the quality of property, value for money and customer service.”

Dickie and Joe, who were living in a three-bedroom end-terrace house in Woodville, started thinking about buying a new home because they were fed up eating their dinner off trays on the settee and not having enough room to entertain their friends.

They wanted to stay in the area to be close to Dickie’s mum, who has multiple sclerosis, but also wanted a house big enough to allow them to start a family.

“We went from thinking about how it would be nice to have more space to actively searching, after a number of things happened at about the same time,” said Dickie. “I got a promotion at work, which meant I had a bigger salary, we got married, and my mother and stepfather moved in with us while their new-build house was being finished.

“The big thing for us, apart from staying local to be close to mum and our friends, was to have enough room to allow us to start a family. Having four bedrooms allows us to go down that path without having to think about having to move to a bigger house.

“At the old house we only had three bedrooms and one of those was my office as I sometimes have to work from home. It meant that only one set of friends could stay over as we only had one spare bedroom. But now that we will have four bedrooms, one will be ours, one will be my office which will leave us with two additional bedrooms.

“The extra space downstairs will really work for us too. The big kitchen means we can have friends over for a meal and everyone can be in the same space, chatting, laughing, having fun. At the old house, the kitchen was so small that we only had a fold-up table and spent most nights eating our food on trays on our knees, on the settee.

“The kitchen/dining room runs the whole length of the house. It is bright and airy and flooded with natural light from the windows and the box bay window which has French doors out onto the back garden. This will be the focal point of the house and we can’t wait to move in and to get all our friends round.

“On the other side of the house is the gorgeous living room where we have two settees and a reading chair each, for relaxing evenings together. The room is also big enough so that when friends come over, we can all chill together.”

The couple’s house is due to be completed in March and, after selling their old house, they have moved in with Dickie’s mum and stepdad.

“It’s amazing how things have come full circle,” said Dickie. “It was lovely to be able to help mum and my stepdad out and have them live with us for a while. They are more than happy to be able to reciprocate and put us up until our new house is ready to move into.

“They have found their forever home and, thanks to mum’s recommendation, so have we. This house is future-proof for us as we can stay here and have enough room to start a family.

“What is really lovely is that our houses are just five minutes’ walk apart, so we can pop over for a cuppa whenever we want and be there quickly if mum needs any help.”

There is currently a choice of three and four-bedroom new homes available to reserve at Springwood, with prices starting at £232,500.
