Second Seal of Excellence award for site manager at Oadby development

A Bellway site manager has claimed back-to-back national construction awards for his excellent work at a new housing development in Leicestershire.

Chris Smith has won a prestigious Seal of Excellence award from the National House Building Council (NHBC) for the quality of his work at Stoughton Park in Oadby, for the second year in a row.

The 42-year-old from Market Bosworth has been in charge of the site at Stoughton Park since work began there in autumn 2020.

Chris is one of just 19 site managers across the NHBC’s East region to receive the accolade in this year’s Pride in the Job Awards, having previously received a Quality Award in an earlier stage of the competition.

Senior site manager Chris said: “Winning the Seal of Excellence for the first time last year was such a fantastic achievement for all concerned, and one we were very proud of. So, to win it two years in a row is hugely satisfying. The award is testament to the culture we have worked to develop on site and is a recognition of the high quality of finished houses and site presentation that we are constantly striving to achieve.

“Hard-working contractors, site staff and my management team, assistant site managers Darren Kimberley and Michael Blake, have all pushed for quality and have taken great pride in the presentation of the site, health and safety, and the finished product of superb homes for our customers.

“We will continue to be proactive in looking for new ways to improve on every aspect of our fantastically presented site at Stoughton Park and look forward to continuing to be the best we can for Bellway East Midlands.”

The annual awards, which were set up more than 40 years ago, are held to celebrate excellence in the industry and to recognise site managers that achieve the highest standards in construction.

Every site manager with a development that is registered for an NHBC Buildmark warranty is entered into the competition. This year more than 8,000 site managers were entered.

Lee Wilkinson, Construction Director at Bellway East Midlands, said: “To win one Seal of Excellence is impressive but to win two in successive years at the same development is remarkable. It speaks of the consistently high standards that Chris reaches and maintains at the site.

“When you consider that thousands of site managers throughout the country were entered into in this year’s competition, that gives you a better appreciation of the scale of the achievement of Chris and his team. The judges assess the entrants across 44 areas of site management by carrying out spot checks of the day-to-day running of the site, testing them on technical knowledge and examining them on the build process.

“We are very proud of the incredible work that Chris and his brilliant team are delivering, which produces high-quality new-build homes for Bellway East Midlands. Long may it continue.”
