Primary school to improve playtimes for children with help from housebuilder’s donation

A primary school which is seeking to transform its play provision has received a £500 donation from housebuilder Bellway to help its plans come to fruition.

Wanborough Primary School will use the money to purchase new play equipment, resources and storage facilities to improve the play experience for children at lunchtimes.

Bellway is building new homes at its Redlands Grove development in the village, and Sales Manager Christel Hawkins and Sales Advisor Melanie visited the school to meet staff and pupils and hand over the cheque.

The play equipment being purchased will include a variety of mini, medium and large loose parts, including role play items, building blocks and outdoor games.

Andrew Drury, Head Teacher at Wanborough Primary School, said: “This very generous donation from Bellway will be used to assist us in our transformation of play opportunities for the children during our school lunchtime.  We are looking to buy new equipment, resources and storage facilities as we develop our provision for the children.

“The £500 will be of huge assistance in making our ambitious plans come to fruition. I’d like to say thank you to Bellway on behalf of the staff and children at Wanborough Primary School.”

Christel Hawkins, Sales Manager for Bellway South West, said: “Having a safe, inspiring and engaging environment to play in is vital for any child’s development so we are extremely pleased that our donation to Wanborough Primary School will enable them to transform the play opportunities for their pupils.

“At Bellway, we are committed to supporting the local communities where we build and have already built strong and lasting relationships in the village, including with the organisers of the annual Wanborough Show, which we have sponsored for the past three years, and St Andrew’s Church, who we have supported with their fundraising efforts.”

Bellway is building 81 new homes in the first phase at Redlands Grove, on land off Wanborough Road in the village. The development is part of a wider scheme of 370 homes being built on the former Redlands Airfield.
