New playground opens at development in Edenbridge

Children in Edenbridge are enjoying using a new playground which has opened at Bellway’s landmark Oakley Park development.

The homebuilder has created the play area, with a range of equipment for children of all ages, at the development off St Johns Way.

Since opening last month (October), the playground has been frequented by many of the young families at Oakley Park, including Abbie Hughes and her sons – Herbie, three, and Woody, one – who moved to the development in December last year.

Abbie said: “The best thing about this playground is that it is incredibly child friendly. It is safe enough for the youngest kids to play here. I love how it has been designed with different age groups in mind because there are not many playgrounds where you can take your one-year-old and let him have some fun.

“This playground has also given Herbie a lot of opportunities to improve his confidence and make new friends. He is a very shy boy and so being outdoors with other kids from other age groups will help him become more outgoing as he grows up.

“It is the perfect environment for kids to get lots of fresh air and burn through some energy running around which helps them sleep better at night as well. It has also helped me to meet up with our neighbours because it’s a good spot for mums and dads to catch up while their kids play.

“When we moved to Oakley Park, we did not know anybody from the neighbourhood because we used to live in Whyteleafe and we were very new in Edenbridge. That is why we really appreciate how the playground has helped us all in making new friends.

“We love going there so much that we have been there four to five times a week since it opened last month. I’m sure we will spend even more time there come spring next year.”

Bellway Kent is building 319 homes at Oakley Park, which opened in 2018. The development has generated £1.5 million in developer contributions to local services as part of the planning agreement.

Homes at Oakley Park are centred around a large area of open space that includes the play area, as well as allotments, informal ‘kickabout’ space, eco habitats and ponds.

Mark Harrop, Sales Director for Bellway Kent, said: “Construction work is now drawing to a close at Oakley Park, and it is wonderful to see our younger residents having fun in the new play area which has now been completed and opened.

“Play areas are great places for children to explore, be active, learn new skills, make friends and have fun and we’ve carefully included a mix of play equipment here to ensure that it’s popular with all ages. There’s also seating to allow parents to meet up while their youngsters are playing, to foster links between new neighbours.

“Our vision for Oakley Park was for a place where people could spend leisure time outdoors in their local community, meeting friends and enjoying an active lifestyle. The expanse of landscaped public open space we’re creating here helps people do just that.”

There are two final homes – a two-bedroom Romney and a four-bedroom Harvel – available to buy at Oakley Park, priced from £394,995 and £534,995 respectively. There’s also the three-bedroom Jevington for sale at Hamsell Mead at Oakley Park, from £479,995.
