New housing development near Peterborough opens its doors to buyers

A new housing development on a former part of the East of England Showground in Peterborough opened its doors to the public last month.

Bellway Eastern Counties is to build 128 new homes at Elder Brook, on a 13.5-acre site close to the village of Alwalton and minutes from the A1.

The housebuilder opened a sales office at the development in October, when the first homes were released for sale.

The development, which is located to the south of Oundle Road and to the north of the showground, will include 113 new two, three and four-bedroom houses for private sale and 15 affordable properties available for local people through rent or shared ownership.

Rhiannon Jones, Head of Sales for Bellway Eastern Counties, said: “This is a much-anticipated launch as there has been an incredible amount of interest, not only from local people, who know all about the attractions of the location, but also from potential purchasers from further afield.

“By May this year, we had in excess of 500 people registering their interest in Elder Brook by signing up to our database. This initial surge of demand has not abated and we expected this launch to be very well attended.

“This was the first time that potential purchasers can visit the site to really appreciate just how ideally located it is. The development is just off the A1 and is five miles from Peterborough city centre which has a host of shops, bars and restaurants and a train station offering regular East Coast Main Line services to central London.”

Elder Brook will feature two large areas of public open space, totalling nearly three acres. There will be a children’s play area and three-metre-wide cycle paths linking the site both internally and externally.

Rhiannon said: “The mix of two, three and four-bedroom homes is designed to appeal to a wide range of buyers including first-time buyers, commuters, growing families seeking more room and downsizers wanting to reduce the size of their living space.

“The development will include extensive soft landscaping and low-density housing to retain the rural feel of the site. Residents will be able to enjoy the best of both worlds by living in a countryside setting a short walk from the nearest village while being in close proximity of the A1 and Peterborough city centre.”
