New Bellway housing development in Shrewsbury opens

House-hunters can now visit a new Bellway West Midlands development taking shape in Shrewsbury, where the first homes have gone on sale.

The developer opened a sales cabin at Darwin’s Edge, off Hereford Road, on Saturday 8 April, with construction on the 14-acre site now underway.

Bellway is set to build 113 new homes for private sale and 37 affordable properties available for local people through low-cost rent and shared ownership at the development, alongside landscaped public open space and footpaths.

Detailed plans for the scheme were given approval by Shropshire Council in February this year.

Marie Richards, Sales Director for Bellway West Midlands, said: “We had lots of visitors during the launch over the Easter weekend, with a mix of home-hunters keen to find out more about this attractive and well-connected development on the southern edge of Shrewsbury.

“The launch of Darwin’s Edge is further evidence of our commitment to providing new housing in the town, following on from our Copthorne Keep development off Copthorne Road and The Spinney, off Oteley Road, which are already delivering more than 380 homes across the two sites.

“This third development further broadens the choice of new housing in Shrewsbury for those looking for a new place to live.”

As part of the new Darwin’s Edge development, a new road into the neighbouring park-and-ride scheme will be created and a new signal-controlled pedestrian crossing is to be installed on Hereford Road to improve pedestrian safety.

Bellway West Midlands is also providing funding of £500,000 towards primary and secondary education in the area.

Marie said: “We worked closely with the local authority to ensure that the range of two, three and four-bedroom homes at Darwin’s Edge helps to meet the particular needs of the local housing market. Across our three developments in Shrewsbury, we will be delivering more than £1.8 million to help improve education provision and other facilities in the area.

“Buyers are being drawn to Darwin’s Edge by its favourable location which is a ten-minute drive from all the amenities of Shrewsbury town centre and Shrewsbury railway station, which offers regular services into Birmingham in an hour. It’s also just a few minutes’ drive to the A5 and A49.

“House-hunters are also being attracted by the sheer quality of the new homes we are delivering. Bellway has recently been awarded five-star builder status by the Home Builders Federation for the seventh year running, with more than 90 per cent of customers saying they would recommend us to a friend. The retention of this prestigious status reassures buyers that they will be choosing a new home which adheres to the highest standards of construction.”
