More than 2,000 turn out for Hornchurch school’s summer fayre

Suttons Primary School in Hornchurch held its biggest summer fayre yet, with support from local homebuilder Bellway London.

The developer was one of several businesses to sponsor the event, which was taking place for the first time since 2019.

More than 2,000 people attended over the course of the day, enjoying the wide variety of attractions which included inflatables, fairground rides, sponge the teacher, archery, hockey, mini athletics, 28 external stall holders and the school ran hook the duck, lucky dip and Whack The Rat.

Allison Roberts, Chair of Suttons Primary School’s Parent Teacher Association (PTA), said:“We had high aspirations when organising Suttons Primary’s first summer fayre since the pandemic hit. For many of our students, this was their first ever school fayre. It was a massive success and was enjoyed by all.

“We hoped for 500 people to attend and in the end, we had over 2,000 people. The food vendors and external stall holders said it was one of the biggest school events they have ever attended.

“In total we raised £8,000. We look forward to building on the success of our summer fayre next year. We’d like to thank Bellway London and other local businesses in supporting the school by raising money towards upgraded learning resources.“

The event was held on the grounds of the Suttons Primary School, which is less than half a mile from Bellway London’s St George’s Park development off Suttons Lane.

The developer made a £500 contribution towards the event, which was used to pay for raffle prizes as well as new books for the school library.

Samantha Norman, Sales Manager at Bellway London, said: “We are so pleased the event was such a great success and that a good time was had by everyone.

“The school’s summer fayre plays in bringing the local community together. With no fayre taking place for the past three years, this year’s event took on added importance which was reflected in the huge turnout.

“We are proud to support such a popular event and look forward to strengthening our relationship with the school as we continue to build much-needed new homes in Hornchurch.”

Bellway London is building 356 homes at St George’s Park, including a mix of houses and apartments. The development is taking shape on the former site of the St George’s Hospital, which closed in 2012.
