Local housebuilder sponsors Bearsted FC’s summer tournament
A junior football competition in Maidstone sponsored by local housebuilder Bellway drew more than 4,000 places and spectators over the weekend.
Bearsted FC hosted its annual summer tournament at Otham Sports Club on Saturday 10 and Sunday 11 June.
A hundred teams from across the region entered the competition, with age groups ranging from U7s to U13s.
And it was a successful event on and off the pitch for the home club, with two of its sides picking up trophies over the course of the weekend.
Jamie Houston, Chairman of Bearsted FC said: "The entire weekend was a fantastic success, and it makes me so proud to see so many boys and girls enjoying what they love to do. With over 4,000 people attending over the two days, I'm happy to say Bearsted FC has achieved another great tournament within local grassroots football.
“The survival of the club depends so much on the success of our annual tournament, not only with the money raised but to establish the club’s reputation. Everyone at Bearsted FC is so very grateful to Bellway for agreeing to support the club by being our main sponsor.
“Bellway have an ever-growing presence in the local community, so it's been a win-win for us both.”
As lead sponsor, Bellway contributed £1,800 towards the cost of running the event. It is the second time the company, which is building 170 homes at its nearby Rosewood development, off Sutton Road, has supported the club. In March last year, the developer arranged for its groundworks contractors Coinford Ltd to carry out improvements to the ground.
