Homebuilder’s £500 donation will provide a place to pause and relax in new garden at Maidstone Hospital

Staff and patients at Maidstone Hospital will have somewhere nice to sit outside, relax and take a break thanks to a donation from homebuilder Bellway.

The company has contributed £500 towards a bench for the new Charity Garden on the hospital site.

The hospital is creating the garden so that staff and patients have a quiet place to take a breather in pleasant surroundings and to acknowledge the efforts of frontline staff who worked tirelessly during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Claire Ashby, Head of Charity and Fundraising at Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells NHS Trust, said: “MTW Hospitals Charity - the sole charity for Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells NHS Trust is very grateful to Bellway Homes for their kind donation towards a colourful bench that will take pride of place in our soon-to-be-revamped Charity Garden at Maidstone Hospital.

“The garden will provide a place for patients, visitors and staff to take some time away from the hustle and bustle of the hospital, with the quiet, green space providing a calming and tranquil place to relax.”

Bellway is building 170 new homes in the town at its Bellway at Rosewood development, off Sutton Road.

Carolyn Webb, Sales Manager for Bellway Thames Gateway, said: “It’s a wonderful idea to create a garden where people at the hospital can enjoy a little escape. Whether you are a hardworking member of staff or someone undergoing treatment or tests, having a place to go to relax can make the world of difference.

“We’re looking forward to seeing the new garden take shape and we hope that the bench being purchased with our donation will provide many moments of relaxation for visitors in the years ahead.”
