Google team showcases energy-saving devices in new homes at Green Oaks

Energy-saving home sustainability technology was unveiled at Bellway’s Green Oaks development in Hednesford when a Google bus visited the site.

The housebuilder has teamed up with Google to fit a number of tech devices into all the private homes at the development off Pye Green Road.

Potential purchasers were given a practical demonstration of the products – which included Google Home Hub, Google Nest Thermostat and Google Video Doorbell – by the Google bus team, who stayed on the site all day on Saturday 8 October.

The Google link-up at Green Oaks is a pilot scheme where Bellway, as part of its sustainability strategy, is introducing energy-saving devices to benefit homeowners. If the installation of the products proves to be a success, the technology could be adopted in all new homes across the housebuilder’s future developments.

Bellway West Midlands is building 74 new homes at Green Oaks, comprising 59 two, three and four-bedroom houses for private sale and 15 affordable homes available to local people through rent or shared ownership.

Marie Richards, Sales Director for Bellway West Midlands, said: “This is an incredibly exciting and innovative collaboration with Google which is testament to our determination to build our new homes in as sustainable a fashion as possible.

“We are embracing technology which will help our customers monitor, and thereby perhaps reduce, the impact that the daily use of their homes has on the environment. This will not only benefit the planet but allow the homeowner to make savings on energy bills, which we know are now a major consideration in the domestic budget.

“Visitors to the development were fascinated by the technology which was demonstrated by the team of experts from the Google bus. The level of control and convenience that these devices provide to the householder is impressive.

“The Google Home Hub is a central system which can control compatible lights, cameras and TVs and can play music and help with daily tasks such as creating shopping lists, finding recipes and making calls. Meanwhile, the Google Nest Thermostat can automatically turn heating on and off throughout the day and will learn to switch off the heating when people leave the house.

“The Google Video Doorbell is a great boost to home security and will automatically record video footage which can be accessed remotely to give homeowners greater peace of mind when they are not at home.”

Green Oaks forms part of a wider 900-home development being delivered off Pye Green Road, which covers 160 acres and includes Poppyfield Primary Academy and Littleton Lodge care home.

Marie said: “The visit of the Google bus was not the only exciting event at the development in that week as the day before we threw open the doors to a new showhome. The three-bedroom Lymner showhome is a perfect example of the top-quality high-specification homes that we are delivering at this site.

“This property, which features the Google technology, has been designed to meet the needs of the modern family.  Downstairs there is a spacious kitchen/diner with French doors to the garden, a cloakroom, a storeroom, a utility room and a separate living room. Meanwhile, upstairs, the main bedroom has an en suite and the two further bedrooms share a family bathroom.

“There has already been a high level of interest in Green Oaks and we anticipate that the introduction of the Google technology in our range of new homes will only serve to increase the appeal of these properties.”

There is currently a choice of two and three-bedroom new homes available to reserve at Green Oaks, with prices starting at £234,995 and £289,500 respectively.
