First residents move in at new development in Northfleet

The first residents are set to move into their new homes on a development on the site of the former Northfleet Cement Works, where work to create new green space is also nearing completion.

Bellway London is set to deliver more than 500 new homes at Harbour Village on the brownfield site off The Creek.

The new homeowners will move in from 30 June. They will soon be able to meet and socialise on the new village green and play ball games on the basketball court, both of which are due to be finished by the autumn.

Detailed plans for the first phase of 121 homes at Harbour Village were approved in January 2022, with outline planning permission for the wider development of up to 532 homes granted in 2018.

Harbour Village has been designed to include a new community centre, shops, commercial and employment space and an extension to the Fastrack bus route through the 76-acre site. The development will also feature a riverside promenade.

Emma Hamlett, Bellway London Sales Director, said: “We are delivering the first area of public open space at Harbour Village at an early stage of the development as it will provide opportunities for both new and existing residents in the neighbourhood to start benefitting from the positive impact of this regeneration scheme.

“Chimney View Park is due to open by the autumn and will feature a central village green, an all-weather basketball court and a number of outdoor table-tennis tables. There will also be a collection of playground-style equipment, including a clatter bridge, a pendulum swing, a climbing frame, a trim trail and a balance beam.

“The idea is to create a focal point for residents to meet and get to know each other in an informal outdoor setting, with facilities for play, sport and leisure.

“Harbour Village will see us regenerate a disused brownfield site and create a vibrant new community, close to the banks of the River Thames. And Chimney View Park is not the only new public open space being created here, as we will be also be delivering Bevan’s Park in the future as another green space for members of the public in Northfleet.”

Harbour Village will be part of the wider Ebbsfleet Garden City project, which is expected to create around 15,000 homes along with shops, commercial and office space, schools, parks and public open space.

There is currently a selection of two, three and four-bedroom houses available to reserve at Harbour Village, with prices starting at £370,000.
