First images of new 1,200-home village in Cherry Hinton

These are the first images of some of the new homes set to be built by housebuilding partnership Bellway Latimer in a sustainable new community in Cambridgeshire.

The computer-generated images depict the new neighbourhood, called Springstead Village, which is being built north of Cherry Hinton on 138 acres of land previously belonging to Marshall Group and the White family.

The new community, which will feature 1,200 new homes, is planned to have its own local centre, a new primary and secondary school, sports and recreation areas, community facilities, allotments and landscaped open spaces.

The ambitious project is a collaboration between Bellway, one of the UK’s largest housebuilders, and Latimer, the development arm of affordable homes provider Clarion Housing Group.

Ulrich van Eck, Project Director for the Bellway Latimer partnership, said: “Understandably, there has been a lot of local interest in what this new neighbourhood will look like. These computer-generated images are great as they will help people to visualise how the community will actually look.

“The images clearly demonstrate the character of the architecture and how green spaces and public areas will be incorporated into the street scenes. They also demonstrate the network of cycleways and footpaths which will connect the development internally and externally.

“Springstead Village is designed to be a pioneering sustainable development, which will set a new standard for placemaking. There will be vast amounts of public open space across the development, where all the homes will feature the latest ecofriendly innovations such as air source heat pumps and electric vehicle charging points.

“Construction work is progressing well on the first phase of 351 new homes on the site, after detailed plans were approved earlier this year. This selection of properties will include one and two-bedroom apartments and two, three and four-bedroom houses, to meet the needs of a wide range of people.”

Outline planning consent for 1,200 homes at Springstead Village was granted in December 2020 and work is progressing on a complex of showhomes approved under a separate planning application.

Springstead Village is due to launch and open to visitors in September when the first homes will be released for sale.
