Father and son enjoy open-plan space at new Bellway home in Rugby
It’s been just a year since Patrick Turner and his teenage son Dan moved into their new four-bedroom house at Bellway’s Houlton Meadows development in Rugby – but already the pair say they can’t imagine living anywhere else.
The father and son previously lived in a new-build house in the centre of town, but the traditional layout of the four-bedroom property, with its divided living spaces, was not ideal for entertaining guests.
So, the 55-year-old claims operation manager began looking for a home with a more contemporary open-plan interior in which he and his 17-year-old son could host family gatherings in style.
And he found exactly what he was looking for in The Elm house type at Houlton Meadows.
Patrick said: “The spacious open-plan kitchen, dining and family area and separate living room confirmed to me and my son that we had found our new home.
“It’s so much better hosting guests at our new house compared to our old house. In our previous home, our rooms were divided and there was less space. Now we can all socialise in the open-plan kitchen and lounge altogether.
“I have had friends and family visit the house and they have all loved the layout of the kitchen, living room and family area. To have the open-plan space to cater for family gatherings is ideal.”
Patrick looked at two other developments before settling on Houlton Meadows. He said the location and Bellway’s customer service were among the factors which convinced him to buy there.
“The location of the development just on the edge of Rugby is lovely. There is a Co-op nearby and I’m looking forward to a new David Lloyd Leisure Centre being built nearby. It’s also ideal for my son who can walk to Ashlawn School Sixth Form, where he is currently studying for his A-Levels.”
“I have loved going for walks around the canal, which is just 10 minutes down the road. There’s also better access to the M1 which makes it easier to get into my office in Milton Keynes.”
Patrick added: “The customer service we received was absolutely brilliant. Julie and James from the sales team were very supportive and receptive to my queries.
“Before we moved in, a site manager showed us how to use various utilities.”
Patrick and Dan moved into their new home last December (2021) and haven’t looked back since.
Patrick said: “As soon as I got the keys I thought to myself, ‘at long last we’re here!’. I haven’t lost that feeling in almost two years since moving. I love relaxing in our sitting room and enjoy cooking in the open-plan kitchen.
“I didn’t want to do too much DIY and I’m actually reluctant to make any changes to our new home as it’s so pristine and clean. We’ve also seen a difference in our heating bills given the energy efficiency of the home.”
Since moving in, Patrick has enjoyed getting to know his fellow residents at Houlton Meadows.
He said: “The neighbours are lovely. We share a driveway and recently we’ve swapped keys with them just in case one of us needs to access either house in case of emergency.
“Me and my son have really settled in here at our new home and we can’t imagine living anywhere else. Everything we were ever looking for we found here.”
