Ellan swaps home on busy main road for life near the park

Ellan Iaquaniello has swapped the noise of traffic from a busy main road for the sounds of children’s laughter and birdsong in a local park.

The 50-year-old school attendance officer is enjoying the quiet life after buying a new three-bedroom home at Bellway’s Liberty Quarter development in Kings Hill in Kent.

Ellan and her 17-year-old daughter Ava used to live in a house that was right on a main road in Aylesford before they made the move to Kings Hill, five miles away.

“When my husband and I decided to go our separate ways, we had to sell the house and I saw this as a chance to make a fresh start,” said Ellan. “The old house was right on a busy main road and there was a constant hum of traffic and it was not a good view. Now our new home looks out over the local park, which is lovely and so calming.”

When looking for a new home for herself and her daughter, Ellan knew they wanted to live in the local area to stay close to family and friends and her work and Ava’s school. During her research, Ellan spotted that Bellway were building new homes in Kings HIll.

“I went along and loved the location of the development and spoke to the sales team of Mica and Lisa,” she said. “They were fantastic and showed me the site plan and floor plans for various three-bedroom houses and I was able to choose a house which had the lounge at the front and the kitchen at the back.

“This is what I wanted because it means that the kitchen has French doors out onto the back garden which is wonderful. We spend a lot of time in the kitchen/diner and the aspect is private rather than looking out to the front.

“Reserving the house off-plan was great because I was able to choose the carpets for the bedrooms and stairs and the tiled-effect floors for the kitchen and bathrooms. The house also came with a new dishwasher, washing machine and fridge/freezer which are brand new, integrated and energy efficient.”

Ellan is delighted to discover that her new home is so much warmer than her old house and cheaper to heat.

“The old house was built in the 1930s and it took ages before the heating got to the right temperature to start warming the place up but here the house is cosy just minutes after putting the heating on. We have not had a bill yet but I know that it is going to be so much cheaper to heat this house as it is well insulated.

“The system here allows us to have the heating on downstairs but not upstairs. This means we can be super snug downstairs then put the heating on upstairs just before we go to bed, which obviously saves energy and money.”

Ellan reserved her new home in September 2022 and hoped to be in by the end of the year. Ellan, Ava and their 11-year-old black and white cat called Patch moved into their new Chandler home on 16 December 2022.

“It was the best Christmas present ever,” she said. “The sales advisors and the site team worked their magic and we moved here in time to enjoy a peaceful festive period together. We were so grateful for that.

“Ava loves her new bedroom and we both love our gorgeous new home. Even Patch is happy as he likes nothing better than curling up on the soft, deep carpet and purring away to his heart’s content.”

Ellan, who used to be a serious marathon runner, also appreciates being able to run to her local gym.

“I ran 135 marathons between 2011 and 2017 and twice did the Brathay 10 in 10 in the Lake District, where you run 10 marathons in 10 days,” she said. “I became a bit obsessed to be honest. I did raise about £30,000 for charity over those years so that was good.

“Where I used to live, it was a 10-minute drive to the gym but now I can jog there. Now, I just run for fun and I like being able to run to the gym six times a week which acts as a lovely gentle warm-up before my cardio session or class.

“This is a new start for myself and Ava and I don’t think it could have gone any better. The house has exceeded my expectations and I can’t ever see me moving from here. I have found my ‘forever’ home.”

There’s currently a selection of three and four-bedroom new homes available to reserve at Liberty Quarter, with prices starting at £439,995.
