Cricket club in Weston-super-Mare bowled over by donation from Bellway
Uphill Castle Cricket Club is looking forward to a great start to its season after receiving sponsorship for match shirts from Bellway.
Bellway South West donated £500 to the club, which is based off Bridgwater Road, Weston-super-Mare, just a few miles from the housebuilder’s Mead Fields development in the town.
The club, which approached Bellway for support, has spent the money on match shirts for its four senior and three junior teams, from under-13s up to the first XI.
Club captain Paddy Holyday said: "Everyone at Uphill Castle is extremely grateful that Bellway has decided to sponsor our playing shirts for the 2023 and 2024 seasons.
“This donation will make a huge difference to our local community club, allow us to improve our facilities and order specialist kits for younger age groups.
“Having seen Bellway were building homes in Weston-super-Mare, I decided to make contact and see whether they would invest in our local club. It’s brilliant to see the contribution they are making in the local community.
“We hope this can be just the start of a great relationship with Bellway. We are a club progressing well on all fronts and are very excited for the coming seasons on and off the pitch.”
Founded in 1893 by the residents of Uphill village, Uphill Castle Cricket Club is named after Uphill Manor, which was previously known as The Castle.
Bellway South West is building 150 homes at Mead Fields, off Wolvershill Road in Weston-super-Mare, as well as at other locations in Somerset.
Rachel Way, Sales Manager for Bellway South West, said: “When Paddy reached out to us and told us that Uphill Castle Cricket Club was looking for sponsorship for the 2023 and 2024 seasons, we were more than happy to get involved.
“The club plays a key role within the local community in Uphill and Weston-super-Mare and we are pleased to be giving our support, especially in what is the club’s 130th anniversary year.”
