Children enjoy newly opened play park at Bellway development in Herne Bay

Families flocked to the opening of a new play area at Bellway’s Oxenden Park development in Herne Bay.

Around 60 residents turned out for a launch event to celebrate the unveiling of the new facility.

Children got their first chance to try out the new pieces of play equipment, which include a climbing frame with a slide, two types of swings and a roundabout.

A range of treats, from hotdogs and candy floss to sweets and hot chocolate, were also available from caterers Leisure King throughout the day.

Mark Harrop, Sales Director for Bellway Kent, said: “The opening of the new play area at Oxenden Park was a wonderful occasion and a fantastic way of bringing local residents together. The play park has been designed with inclusivity in mind and there is a wide range of equipment which caters for children of all ages.”

“We had a brilliant turn out for the launch event and it was lovely to see so many youngsters immersing themselves in the new play equipment. We are proud to be supporting the local community by providing this facility where children can play safely and we look forward to welcoming more people here in the future.”

Bellway is building 450 new homes at Oxenden Park, on land off Greenfield Road. These include 315 properties for private sale and 135 affordable homes available to local people through shared ownership or low-cost rent.

As part of the planning agreement for Oxenden Park, Bellway is investing £3.5 million in local services, including contributions towards medical facilities and schools as well as funding to support measures aimed at reducing disturbance to wintering birds in wetland areas of North Kent.
