Cheadle football team nets new kit thanks to housebuilder's donation

A boy’s football team in Cheadle will be playing in a brand-new kit next season, thanks to financial support from Bellway.

The housebuilder has donated £900 to Cheadle South Moorlands United FC under 12s yellow team to cover the cost of their new playing kit for the 2022-23 campaign, including tracksuit tops for every player.

The team plays its home games at the playing fields off Churchill Road, less than half a mile from Bellway’s Cecilly Mills development on the former JCB factory site off Oakamoor Road.

Tony Wheat, Manager of Cheadle South Moorlands United FC under 12s, said: “This donation is great news for the team and is a brilliant gesture from Bellway, especially in such uncertain times.

“The last few years have been tough for everyone in the wake of the pandemic, but this contribution to our team is massive, and allows us to continue to provide for our team and ensures that the costs involved in fielding a team for the next few years are met.

“It is great to see businesses helping the local community in Cheadle. I would like to say thank you on behalf of myself and the boys for choosing to sponsor our team, and hope that this can form the start of a strong relationship between us both.”

Sarah Swift, Team Treasurer, said: “This donation is a massive relief for us, and helps us to reduce the burden of funding a local club such as ours.

“This donation will give us a couple of years’ worth of financial breathing space and offers us a secure platform for the club to move forward, allowing us to continue to ensure that our players can remain happy and active and doing something that they love.”

Marie Richards, Sales Director at Bellway West Midlands, said: “We are extremely mindful of the responsibility we have to ensure that our developments have a genuinely positive impact on the communities in which we build. To this end, supporting local community groups is of paramount importance to us.

“Cheadle South Moorlands United FC is based just around the corner from our Cecilly Mills development and is an invaluable community hub which serves the local area. We hope our donation will help the club continue to provide a fun and inclusive place for young people in Cheadle.”

Bellway West Midlands is delivering a total of 120 new homes at its Cecilly Mills development, transforming the former JCB factory site, which was closed in 2016.
