Bellway's high standards prompts Gloucestershire site manager's return

High standards and strong values were both significant factors in persuading a Gloucestershire-based site manager to return to Bellway.

Scott Thomas, 49, who lives in Hardwicke, rejoined the housebuilder as a site manager at its Millbrook Grove development in Brockworth earlier this year.

Only five months previously, he had taken on a position in the same role with another housebuilder, following a previous three-year tenure at Bellway as an assistant site manager.

But Scott was not gone for long, and it was ultimately the ways of working and the relationships he had built at Bellway that convinced him to return.

Scott said: “After a very enjoyable three years at Bellway Wales after joining the company in 2018 as an assistant site manager at its Springfields development in Hardwicke, I decided it was time to take the next step in my career and take up a position as site manager with another housebuilder.

“I always felt a strong sense of appreciation during my time at Bellway, and this came from all levels of the business. It was almost like coming home.”

Scott, who rejoined Bellway in February this year, added: “I made some great friends during my time with the company, and I kept in touch with both my former site manager and contracts manager. An opportunity then came up for me to return to working for the company as a site manager at Millbrook Grove after a brief period of acclimatisation as an assistant at Sandalwood Green in Hempsted.”

“I was naturally delighted to learn that I could return to the company, and especially excited to be returning as a site manager, which was a step up from the role I had left in September 2021. Bellway just have a way of working that truly aligns with my own values, and as a company have incredibly high specifications and expectations of what is expected on site. If I am being honest, I wish I would have known 10 or 15 years ago what working for Bellway would be like, but I am just glad to be here now.”

Prior to joining Bellway, Scott had a successful career in the construction industry, working for a range of housebuilders and running his own painting, decorating and property services business for 15 years.

Scott added: “Following the end of my time working as my own boss, I was keen to get into the larger housebuilding industry and work for someone else for a while, and to give it a proper go with a sizeable housebuilder.”

Now he has returned, Scott is sure that he has made the right call and is looking to the future.

“It has been a great feeling coming onto the Millbrook Grove site and trying to instil my way of working here. We have already received positive feedback on the quality of work we are delivering on site and on our clean way of working from the construction director and others, which is very pleasing.

“As soon as I returned to the company, it felt as though I had made the right decision. I am looking forward to continuing my work at Millbrook Grove, and to perhaps one day taking things a step higher and going into the contract manager role, should the opportunity arise.

“It sounds like a cliché, but I really do enjoy coming into work every day. Of course, it has its challenges, and no two days are the same, but I find my work incredibly rewarding, and love being a part of this industry and working for Bellway Wales.”.
