Bellway to start work on 86 new homes on the edge of Salisbury
Construction work on a new housing development with views of Salisbury Cathedral will get underway in February.
Bellway is to build 86 homes at Spirewood Grange, on elevated land around a mile south of the city centre.
The development will bring more than £1.1 million in funding for local services and infrastructure, while providing 34 affordable homes.
The housebuilder has acquired the 13-acre site to the south of Rowbarrow and east of Odstock Road after securing planning permission from Wiltshire Council in October last year.
Graeme Cole, Sales Director at Bellway Wessex, said: “Our new development will bring wide-ranging benefits to the Salisbury area, from the supply of high-quality new homes to investment in local services including sports facilities, open space, transport and early years education.
“The development will feature a range of two, three and four-bedroom houses for private sale, providing choices for people at different stages in their property buying journey. And the character of the homes has been influenced by the traditional design of neighbouring properties.
“Electric vehicle charging points and cycle storage will be provided to encourage green modes of transport, while the development is also close to bus routes on Odstock Road and within walking distance of local facilities.
“Our team has approached the design and layout of the development with imagination and creativity. This is a development which will celebrate its surroundings by highlighting views across to Salisbury Cathedral and Laverstock Down.”
Financial contributions from Bellway as part of its planning agreement will include a £240,000 contribution to an off-site biodiversity mitigation scheme; a £208,464 contribution to the Salisbury Transport Strategy; and £157,698 towards early years education to pay for nine nursery places in the area.
The housebuilder will also pay £54,900 for a MUGA (multi-use games area) at Churchill Gardens; £10,000 towards enhancing the existing footpath between the site and the A338; and £10,000 towards the installation of real time information at nearby bus stops.
The site contains Prehistoric and Anglo-Saxon remains which will be preserved in situ in a large area of green open space to the south of the development. This will also include a play space for children, wildflower planting and a new footpath connecting the site to the neighbouring development to the north.
The homes for private sale at Spirewood Grange will feature a mix of two, three and four-bedroom houses, while the affordable housing will include one-bedroom apartments and two and three-bedroom houses.
