Bellway stumps up sponsorship for Almondsbury Cricket Club

Almondsbury Cricket Club is bowled over after securing a sponsorship deal with a local housebuilder.

Bellway South West has donated £300 to help fund the purchase of new ground maintenance equipment at the club, which is based off Gloucester Road.

The housebuilder is delivering new homes just three miles away, at Berwick Green off Cribbs Causeway.

The club, which was formed in 1861, has about 40 players on its books and runs a first team, a second team and a midweek T20 team. The first and second XIs play in division three and division seven (North) of the Bristol and District League respectively, while the midweek team plays friendly fixtures.

Bellway’s sponsorship will be used to purchase a seed slotter and drag brush to help the ground staff reseed the pitch and maintain a good quality wicket.

Mark Williams, groundsman at Almondsbury Cricket Club, said: “It is with great pleasure that Almondsbury Cricket Club can announce a new sponsorship with Bellway. This exciting new partnership, which comes with this generous donation, will help towards procuring important equipment for the maintenance of the ground.

“Almondsbury Cricket Club also has big plans to enhance the facilities with a new two-lane practice net and a new electronic scoreboard as the first steps. Partnerships with companies in the local area such as Bellway are vital in maintaining the progression of the club and ensure that we continue to provide a thriving cricket club for all abilities and ages.”

Rachel Way, Senior Sales Manager at Bellway South West, said: “When Mark approached us to see if we wanted to sponsor the club we were more than happy to help out.

“As a socially responsible company, we strive to make a positive impact in the communities where we build by helping local organisations. Almondsbury Cricket Club is a fantastic grassroots sports club and is just three miles from Berwick Green and less than a mile from our divisional headquarters at Aztec West Business Park.

“We hope our donation will help Mark keep the grass in tip-top condition so that the teams have the best possible pitches to play on.”

Bellway is building 256 homes in its first phase at Berwick Green and is also planning a second phase of 153 homes. The development will form part of a wider new neighbourhood of 760 homes which will include a range of two, three and four-bedroom homes.
