Bellway lends support to Men's Shed

Bellway Homes has lent its support to Penicuik and District’s Men's Shed, a community social charity based within The Glencorse Centre grounds in Auchendinny.

The Men's Shed is one of around 200 in Scotland and provides a place where men, but not exclusively men, can meet, socialise and make things in the company of others.

The housebuilder donated £250 and provided materials, including monoblocking, fencing and lighting from the deconstruction of a development sales centre.

Lynn Pringle, Sales Director, Bellway Homes Ltd (Scotland East) said, “Men’s Sheds are a terrific community initiative and just to have that space to meet up is so important.  The Penicuik and District Shed is just going to go from strength to strength.”

The Shed eases pressure on the NHS by providing a means to combat the effects of depression, bereavement and social isolation, often receiving referrals from medical professionals. Ran by volunteers, it is completely self-funding and relies on the generosity of the community and businesses.

A planning application has been lodged that, if successful, will enable three former site cabins to be brought together as a single structure comprising a workshop, skills sharing workshop and toilets.

Shed Chairman, David Russell said, “Engaging with construction planning individuals has been expensive but we are almost ready to start building work.  We are grateful to Bellway for their donation which will go towards the day to day expenses associated with running a Men's Shed and providing a welcoming space where a hot drink and biscuits are always available.”

Bellway Homes and its sister company, Ashberry Homes, are currently building new homes at two developments, Dalmore Grange and Five Mills, located off Graham’s Road in Auchendinny.  Prices range from £294,995.

The showhomes and sales office are open every Thursday 10am until 7pm; Friday 10am until 5pm, Saturday and Sunday 11am until 5pm and Monday 10am until 5pm.  Further details are available by calling 01968 310 065 or visiting www.bellway.co.uk.
