Bellway lends its support to Hartlepool Foodbank

Bellway has made a cash donation to support Hartlepool Foodbank, which provides food for around 150 people in the town every week.

The developer, which is building new homes at Hartwell Park, off Hart Road, Hartlepool, gave £200 to the charity, based in Church Street.

The money will go towards the purchasing of food supplies to replenish the foodbank’s stock.

Foodbank Manager Lisa Lavender from Hartlepool Foodbank, said: “We’d like to say a huge thank you to Bellway for their kind donation. Our spending towards food has increased significantly, so this donation will go a long way towards our supplies to support those who need us.”

Hartlepool Foodbank, which is run by volunteers, was founded by local churches and community groups in 2012 and is part of The Trussell Trust’s national network of foodbanks.

The foodbank provides parcels, containing a three-day supply of food, to local people who are struggling to provide for themselves and their families.

The parcels are put together using donations of non-perishable, in-date food from schools, churches, businesses and individuals.

Oliver Wray, Sales Manager at Bellway Durham, said: “In the face of the rising cost of living, the work of Hartlepool Foodbank remains a beacon of hope for those who are struggling to put food on the table.

“We hope this donation will help the foodbank to continue its amazing work as it reaches out to support more people in the community.

“The service the volunteers offer is excellent as they not only provide vital food supplies but also signpost people to other agencies who may be able to help them with any other issues they may have.”
