Bellway hosts event in Newport to mark Help to Buy extension

Bellway hosted an event at a new housing development in Newport to mark the extension of the Help to Buy scheme in Wales.

The event was held to promote the initiative at Bellway’s Heron’s Mead development in Llanwern on Saturday 1 April – the day that the scheme was officially extended until 2025.

The Welsh Government-backed scheme allows people to buy a new-build home with just a five per cent deposit and a 75 per cent mortgage. The other 20 per cent of the purchase price is provided as a loan that is interest free for the first five years. The qualifying cap on the purchase price has been raised for the extended scheme from £250,000 to £300,000.

Rhodri Davies, Sales Manager for Bellway Wales, said: “The Help to Buy scheme has helped many people, who would not have been able to afford a larger deposit, get their feet onto the property ladder. There is no doubt that the extension of the Government-backed scheme, and the raising of the price cap from £250,000 to £300,000, is great news for people who want to buy a new-build Bellway home in Wales.

“We have got a selection of homes at Heron’s Mead which are priced at less than £300,000 so buyers can qualify for the scheme, with three-bedroom properties from £274,995.

“We are also building new homes at Coed Derw in Llantwit Fardre and at Parc Mawr in Penllergaer, near Swansea, and there are properties at both sites which are priced below the £300,000 price cap for Help to Buy.”

At the Help to Buy event at Heron’s Mead, an independent mortgage specialist from The New Homes Group and a solicitor from Newbolds were in attendance with the sales team to help answer questions from potential purchasers.

Magician Bryan Gunton was also on hand to entertain visitors including a series of tricks using a set of Bellway-branded playing cards. The sales team ensured there was a supply of nibbles and drinks to keep customers refreshed.

Rhodri said: “The event was a fantastic success and we had a lot of potential purchasers who came along to see what we have to offer at Heron’s Mead.

“Our sales team was kept really busy and the independent mortgage expert and the solicitor were in great demand as visitors were keen to find out what mortgage deals were available to them on their budget.

“The magician Bryan Gunton was brilliant and kept both the adults and children enthralled. He performed one trick where he changed a card showing a tired old house into a brand-new Bellway home.”

At Heron’s Mead, Bellway Wales is building a total of 152 homes on the former Llanwern steelworks site, comprising 137 properties for private sale and 15 affordable homes for shared ownership or rent.
