Bellway celebrates triple Housebuilder Awards success

Bellway is celebrating a triple success after scooping three titles at the 2023 Housebuilder Awards.

The company picked up the prestigious Large Housebuilder of the Year award as well as claiming wins in the Best Staff Development and Best Sustainability Initiative categories.

Staff from the Newcastle-based developer were presented with the awards during a ceremony at the InterContinental London – The O2, hosted by the comedian Joel Dommett.

In addition to its three award wins, Bellway was also shortlisted in two other categories – Best Customer Satisfaction Initiative and Best Marketing Initiative.

Tony Atkin, Bellway Group Production Managing Director, said: “I’m sure that the 2023 Housebuilder Awards is a night that none of us will forget in a hurry. To be shortlisted across five categories was in itself a great achievement, so to end up winning three awards – including the biggest prize of them all – is an outstanding result. This success is a real testament to the hard work, dedication of our staff across all areas of the business.”

Bellway was one of two winners in the Best Sustainability Initiative category, receiving the award in recognition of its commitment to sustainability through the Better with Bellway strategy.

Working with the Carbon Trust, Bellway has set two science-based targets for reducing emissions by 2030 which are among the most ambitious in the housebuilding industry.

A key part of its sustainability strategy is the Future Homes project which is investigating new ways to power, insulate and heat homes in a more energy efficient way.

The research is taking place at The University of Salford’s Energy House 2.0 project.

Jamie Bursnell, Bellway Group Technical and Innovation Manager, said: “The Future Home @ Energy House 2.0 has provided us with an insight into how we can develop our homes to be better for both the people who live there, and for the planet as a whole. Bellway is focused on achieving net zero by 2050, and our Future Homes project will play an integral role in helping us to meeting that goal.”

The Best Staff Development Award was given to Bellway in recognition of the company’s Employer of Choice programme. One of the three key priorities of Better with Bellway – Bellway’s long-term commitment to responsible and sustainable business practices - is to be recognised as an Employer of Choice.

As part of this commitment, the company has introduced pioneering training programmes for its senior leadership team and middle managers, as well as providing inclusion hiring and mental health awareness training for all people managers.

Heidi Khoshtaghaza-Hay, Bellway Group HR Director, said: “We recognise that we would not be successful without the talent and commitment of our colleagues and it is vital that we provide a diverse, inclusive and welcoming environment in which they can thrive.

“It is extremely encouraging that our work in this field has been recognised with this award and we will continue to invest in our workforce to enable our employees to achieve their goals.”
