Bellway acquires land for 425 homes at two sites in Wiltshire

Bellway has completed the acquisition of land in Devizes and Chippenham, with plans to build 425 new homes across the two sites.

The company’s South West division intends to build 225 homes at Rowden Chase within Rowden Park Garden Village, to the south of Chippenham, with the land deal for this site completed on 18 November.

This deal follows the purchase of land to the north of Coate Road in Devizes last year, where Bellway proposes to build 200 new homes at a development called Lock Keeper Gardens.

Outline planning permission is in place for both projects, with Bellway’s detailed plans for the schemes currently pending consideration by Wiltshire Council.

Sam Sowden, Land Director for Bellway South West, said: “The acquisition of these two sites is an important milestone in progressing plans for the delivery more than 400 new homes, including much-needed affordable housing, in Wiltshire.

“Both schemes comprise a mix of homes both to meet local needs and to help create diverse and inclusive communities, with all homes benefiting from energy-efficient designs and solar PV panels to help residents minimise their energy bills.

“We have also carefully designed green outdoor space as part of both developments, with tree-planting and wildlife habitats, and ensured that streets are pedestrian friendly to encourage car-free travel.

“Subject to planning approval, we hope to start work on both sites later this year - at Rowden Chase at Easter and at Lock Keeper Gardens in the summer.”

Bellway has acquired the Phase 4 and Phase 5 land at Rowden Park Garden Village, which is a consortium site of up to 1,000 new homes.

The Bellway part of the neighbourhood – Rowden Chase – has been planned to include 157 private homes and 68 affordable homes available for local people through low-cost rent or shared ownership, as well as green open space and footpath links.

The masterplan for the wider development includes a local centre and land for a primary school, as well as public open space including a riverside park, recreational facilities and allotments.

Proposals for Lock Keeper Gardens, meanwhile, comprise 140 two, three and four-bedroom houses for private sale and 60 affordable homes. A local centre and a children’s play area are also planned, as well as a trim trail around the site. Footpaths, cycleways, and pedestrian links will also be provided to allow for connectivity to the wider community.
