Alvaston football team receives support from housebuilder next door
A junior football team based in Alvaston will be playing in a brand-new kit this season after securing sponsorship from local housebuilder Bellway.
The company has provided £500 to Field Lane FC Under 8s, who play their home matches at Field Lane Community Centre, next to Bellway’s upcoming Holbrook Park and The Meadows developments in Boulton Moor.
As well as paying for a new playing strip for the team, which competes in the Derby Junior Football League Under 8 section, the money will also help to cover the cost of match fees, referee fees and hiring winter training facilities.
Martin Broer, manager of Field Lane FC Under 8s, said: “I noticed that Bellway were building new homes next to Field Lane Park, which is where the club has been based since 1982. Our new Under 8s team needed a sponsor for the upcoming season, and I thought it would be a good partnership for Bellway to sponsor a local football team, especially given the proximity of the upcoming developments.
“This donation will make a huge difference to the team. Following on from the pandemic, it has been difficult to plan and play children's football, and there is a lot more to pay for than just the kit. In the current climate, Bellway’s donation will reduce the cost to the parents for the whole season, meaning that more children can play football.
“As a volunteer, it can sometimes be hard work managing and coaching the team, and also having to act as an accountant. This sponsorship from Bellway gives us a huge lift at the start
of the season and gives the children a real boost having such a well-known company
written across the front of the shirts.
“On behalf of myself, the team, the parents and the club, I want to say a huge thank you to Bellway for its involvement with our club for this season, and hope that this partnership can continue for future seasons as Bellway’s development grows in the area.”
