A third of homes sold at Cecilly Mills development in Cheadle

A third of the homes for sale at Bellway’s Cecilly Mills development in Cheadle have now been sold, as the project reaches its two-year milestone.

The development is transforming the site of the former Cecilly Mills JCB factory, which closed in 2016, into a new residential neighbourhood off Oakamoor Road.

Bellway started building on the nine-and-a-half-acre site in December 2020. The development will comprise 120 new properties, including 13 affordable homes for rent or shared ownership and 107 for private sale.

Of those private homes 36 have been sold and 22 of them have been completed, with their new residents moved in.

Marie Richards, Sales Director for Bellway West Midlands, said: “This is a true transformation of the land as it is being turned from a brownfield site into a wonderful place to live. We are glad to maintain the name of Cecilly Mills, which was attached to the site during its JCB years and before that when it was a textile mill.

“With a third of the properties that we will sell privately here already sold and the first residents having been handed their keys, things are certainly progressing well.

“People are finding Cecilly Mills a very attractive development as this is a much sought-after area and there are a range of homes available to suit different requirements. First-time buyers, couples, families, downsizers – people in all these stages of life are finding just what they are looking for here.

“And people are also interested in the development because it is near to amenities and other towns. It is a five-minute walk to Cheadle town centre and around 20 minutes’ drive to Stoke-on-Trent.”

Work on the development has included the creation of a ‘green corridor’ based around the Cecilly Brook. Previously the brook flowed through a closed culvert under a series of concrete bridges, but after Bellway restored the feature, it can now be seen from Oakamoor Road.

An eight-metre buffer zone has been created along the brook with new planting and measures to encourage biodiversity and already ducks and trout have been spotted there.

There are two, three and four-bedroom homes currently for sale at Cecilly Mills with prices starting from £209,995.
