Staff from housebuilder hold litter pick in Godmanchester

Community-spirited staff from housebuilder Bellway Eastern Counties organised a litter pick in Godmanchester.

Five employees from Bellway, which is building new homes in the town at Whitehill Gardens, donned hi-vis jackets to help clear up rubbish on Thursday 2 March.

The team, which included Bellway Eastern Counties’ Head of Sales Rhiannon Jones and Sales Manager Amy Hughes, helped clear roads, walkways and hedgerows.

The litter-pickers started their clean-up session at Whitehill Gardens, off Bearscroft Lane, then moved out onto the surrounding streets of Godmanchester.

Rhiannon said: “Our site teams are incredibly proud of the very high standards they set during the construction process at our developments and Whitehill Gardens is no exception. We like to maintain a tidy site, so we started our clean-up operation at the development and quickly moved out onto the streets of Godmanchester, where there was rubbish to be picked up.

“At Bellway we have created a strategy called ‘Better with Bellway’, which is a company-wide programme designed to help us to improve and move forward, and one of the eight main priorities is to engage with the local community where we are building. Our ethos is not just to deliver much-needed new homes but also to forge meaningful relationships within the neighbourhood.

“Godmanchester is a lovely town and we wanted to do something tangible and positive to help improve the daily lives of the residents. The team at Whitehill Gardens came up with the idea to organise a litter pick in the town and I was more than happy to join them on the clean-up session.

“To help ensure that the town’s walkways and hedgerows remain as clean and tidy as possible, we pulled on our hi-vis jackets, grabbed our litter-pickers and plastic bin bags and hit the streets. It was an incredibly satisfying feeling to pick up rubbish from the streets and particularly from the local playground, where our efforts will make the environment safer and more pleasant for children.”

Bellway is building a mix of two-bedroom bungalows and three and four-bedroom houses for sale at Whitehill Gardens, with homes currently available to reserve from £394,995.
