Rural crafts at Mid Devon Show boosted by sponsorship from Bellway

Bellway has sponsored the rural crafts area at the 30th Mid Devon Show this year with a £325 donation.

The one-day show, which promotes Mid Devon and agriculture through education and entertainment and attracts approximately 18,000 people a year, takes place on Saturday 22 July at Knightshayes near Tiverton.

The rural crafts area being sponsored by Bellway – which is building new homes across Mid Devon including in Tiverton – involves local craftspeople demonstrating their skills to promote and share them with others.

Show director Rosemary Chanin said: “The show has become a part of Mid Devon culture and is a highlight in our local social calendar.

“The Mid Devon Show is committed to promoting traditional crafts. Although these skills were once widespread and commonplace, recent reports have shown that the survival of some rural crafts is now in doubt.

“It is essential that these skills are taught and shared with new generations. This year we are inviting crafters to demonstrate their skills to our guests for free and we are only able to do this due to the support we received from Bellway to sponsor the rural crafts area.”

This year’s Mid Devon Show will also feature a range of entertainment and attractions, with livestock competitions, music including an ABBA tribute act, classic vehicles and tractors and more than 300 traders.

Show organiser Colin Nation said: “This year’s entertainment is unbelievable. Our music fest is packed with performances throughout the day, the livestock competitions remain at the heart of the show with cattle, sheep, goats and horses competing for the top prizes and we even have a dog show which includes flyball racing.

“We also have a food and drinks marquee and there are plenty of activities for children to keep them entertained with our bouncy castles and fairground attractions.”

Bellway is delivering hundreds of new homes across Mid Devon – at Fox Mill Gardens in Willand, Libbets Grange near Crediton and Empress Gardens in Tiverton.

Rachel Way, Sales Manager for Bellway South West, said: “In addition to providing new housing in Mid Devon, we want to support local people and initiatives which promote community life.

“The Mid Devon Show is a successful long-running event and we are happy to provide sponsorship in this, its 30th year, so that visitors can attend free demonstrations in the rural crafts area, learn about these fascinating skills and ensure they continue for future generations.”
