New Bellway development will bring 250 homes and link road for Margate

Bellway has been granted planning consent for a development of 250 homes in Margate which will generate around £700,000 of investment in infrastructure, create a new link road, and provide 12 drop-off spaces for parents at a local school.

The development, to be known as Navigators Walk, will be located on land between Nash Road and Manston Road.

It will include two, three and four-bedroom homes for private sale, as well as 45 one to four-bedroom apartments and houses which will be designated as affordable homes for local people.

A large, green open space to the north of the site will be home to play and recreation areas, along with new wildlife habitats and a pond to accommodate drainage. New trees, hedgerows and wildflowers will be planted throughout the site.

Chris Moore, Managing Director for Bellway Kent, said: “Navigators Walk has been carefully planned to deliver a mix of housing that will meet the needs of people in the area, supported by investment in infrastructure.

“This includes contributions towards education, transport and youth services, as well as building a link road to benefit residents in the wider area, and carrying out improvements to relieve traffic.

“Meanwhile, the green spaces we create will enhance wildlife and provide places for people to meet and connect with nature.

“The homes themselves have been designed using materials that reflect local architecture, with none higher than two-and-a-half storeys.”

Outline planning consent to build 250 homes on the 23-acre site was granted in 2022.

As part of the planning agreement, Bellway will pay more than £560,000 towards secondary education; £12,000 towards library services; £15,000 for bus stop improvements; more than £5,000 to support community learning in Margate; around £15,000 towards youth services, including the refurbishment of Margate’s Quarterdeck Youth Centre; and £87,500 towards mitigation works at Sandwich Bay and along the Thanet coastline.

Bellway plans to start work at Navigators Walk in the spring and the first residents will be able to move in during 2025 . For more information see https://www.bellway.co.uk/new-homes/kent/navigators-walk.
