Housebuilder sponsors climbing wall at Wanborough Show

Bellway helped lay solid foundations for fun at the Wanborough Village and Country Show by sponsoring the event’s seven-metre-high climbing wall for the third year running.

The company, which is building 81 new two, three and four-bedroom homes in the first phase of its Redlands Grove development off Wanborough Road, donated £500 to organisers of the annual show, which was held in Church Meadow on Saturday (17 August).

The developer’s contribution helped to pay for the wall, which was wide enough for four people to climb at the same time and was manned by qualified guides.

Kath Liston, the show’s sponsorship and advertising officer, said: “I approached Bellway again this year to ask for a contribution to the Wanborough Show and was absolutely delighted that they agreed to sponsor again for the 3rd consecutive year.

“Their generous donation allows us to offer the Climbing Wall as a free attraction, which is very popular with children and also quite a few adults! On behalf of all of the show organisers I would like to thank Bellway for their continued support.

“We are a not-for-profit organisation which aims to deliver a fabulous show every year for people in the village and surrounding area. Revenue generated is re-invested the following year and distributed to local charities and initiatives. Bellway help us to achieve this, and we are extremely grateful.”

As well as the climbing wall, the show also featured attractions including the Steve Colley Trials Bike Show, a collection of food and craft stalls, a vehicle display, a beer tent and a flower and produce show.

The Wanborough Dog Show, which was also part of the day, included prizes for the canine with the most appealing eyes and the dog the judges would most like to take home. Visitors were also entertained by a live falconry show and a display by the Chippenham Morris Men.

Christel Hawkins, Sales Manager at Bellway South West, said: “This is the third year in a row that we have stepped in to sponsor the climbing wall at the show and it feels good to cement our relationship with the organisers in this way.

“The Wanborough Village and Country Show is a real red-letter day in the social calendar of the local community and plays a vital part in bringing people together and promoting a sense of togetherness. We are happy that our money helped to make the event a success and must congratulate the organisers for once again pulling out all the stops to ensure the show was an occasion for everyone to enjoy and to remember.”

Bellway’s new homes at Redlands Grove are part of a wider new neighbourhood of up to 370 new homes taking shape on the former Redlands Airfield, to the north of the village.
